Cedar Hill State Park

If you’re looking for a great outdoor adventure, pack up the car and head out to Cedar Hill State Park! If you want to plan a camping trip, Cedar Hill State Park has 350 developed campsites, each located near a restroom with a hot shower. Each site has amenities like water and electricity, so you’ll be able to experience the beauty of nature without sacrificing too many comforts of home.

Cedar Hill State Park has a variety of trails that you can explore on a bike or foot, making for an active thing to do in Midlothian, TX. The DORBA trail crisscrosses 1,200 acres of land and is perfect for a family activity day. Bring a picnic and a blanket and enjoy lunch on Joe Pool Lake’s shores! And speaking of the lake, you can swim, fish, paddle, and boat out on the water on a gorgeous hot day. There is a gravel swimming beach with picnic tables and grills nearby and a playground and restrooms next to the beach.

When you visit Cedar Hill State Park, pick up a free Junior Ranger Journal at park headquarters! Your child can complete a certain number of activities (dependent on age) to earn a Junior Ranger pin.

You can also grab a Junior Ranger Explorer Pack, which is a backpack stocked with binoculars and a magnifying glass, an animal tracking key with guides to the different flowers, birds, butterflies, trees, wildflowers, rocks, and plants you may find along the way, and pencil crayons and watercolors with a journal and sketchbook. It’s the perfect way to empower your kid to embrace adventure and explore!

Country Critters Farm

Country Critters Farm is the perfect place for every animal enthusiast, whether you consider yourself a city or a country person. The Farm offers fun, affordable, and educational visits where kids can get a hands-on learning experience while petting adorable farm animals. It’s one thing to learn about these fun, friendly animals in books or on tv, but to see them up close and interact with them firsthand is an entirely new learning experience.

When you visit Country Critters Farm, you’ll have access to their petting zoo, where you can interact with animals like goats, sheep, rabbits, donkeys, ponies, and more! There is also a bounce house, playground area, hayrides, a wooden maze, and game areas. If you visit on the weekend, you can enjoy a pony ride, too! Please note that Country Critters Farm does close on rainy, mucky days, so plan accordingly in case of bad weather.

Urban Air

Urban Air is the “Ultimate Indoor Adventure Park” where kids of all ages – and grown-ups, too! – can have a blast while being active and playing. They are so much more than a trampoline park; Urban Air is a total experience! Urban Air has a variety of attractions that are ideal for the adventurous and active but are also a great way to encourage beginners to step outside their comfort zone and try something new.

The Runway is a long trampoline with nets and a safety wall perfect for gymnasts, dancers, and cheerleaders to get a little extra bounce while trying out a new routine. The Warrior Course is similar to what you see watching Ninja Warrior shows, a fun obstacle course that will challenge you to make your way through while testing your speed, strength, and agility!

There are climbing walls, dodgeball on trampolines, and a Battle Beam, where you try to knock your opponent off their balance and into a foam pit. There’s also the APEX trampolines for plenty of flipping, jumping, and flying through the air – oh yes, there aren’t just trampolines on the ground, but also the walls, so your kid can literally expend their energy by bouncing off the walls. As such, this is one of my favorite things to do in Midlothian, TX.

Play Street Museum

Play Street Museum is the perfect spot for your little one to engage in creative play and put their imagination to good use! Each of their exhibits offers interactive learning opportunities, environments that stimulate play, and immersive entertainment for your child.

Visiting Play Street is easy; every day, they offer four different reservation sessions that you can book. This allows them to moderate the number of visitors at a time while allowing their littlest learners to socialize and begin developing critical social skills. Your child can pretend to be a doctor, perform check-ups on their friends, visit a play grocery store, and even save the day as a heroic firefighter.

In addition to these fabulous interactive learning spaces, your child will also be able to experience the art exploration station, where they can pick out a piece of pottery to paint (for an additional charge) or transform a blank canvas into a masterpiece that is uniquely theirs. The Slime Lab lets kids explore the science of ooey, gooey slime while creating their own batch with a fun theme like mermaids, unicorns, outer space, and more!

Play Street Museum features weekly themes centered around notable events, influential figures, and more, so there will always be something new to learn and explore.
